The Competitive Edge

About The Competitive Edge

The Competitive Edge is AIM North America’s monthly, quick-read e-newsletter. Our purpose, as the title suggests, is to help you maintain your competitive edge and grow your business by putting you in touch with key information. Inside you’ll find highlights on current reseller, integrator, distributor, or manufacturer issues and market trends (a feature titled Headline AIM), along with member-specific news and information. As good as The Competitive Edge is, we’re open to new ways of making it even better, so your comments and suggestions are welcomed.

Headline AIM—Secure Relationships with Retailers by Helping with PCI Compliance

By Paul Vogt, Zebra Technologies

The PCI (Payment Card Industry) Security Standards Council sets standards that all retailers and other organizations that accept credit cards from American Express, Discover, MasterCard, Visa and other PCI members must adhere to. Retailers can lose their card processing privileges if they don’t comply with PCI standards for data protection and transaction security. Because of new wireless security requirements, many companies are out of compliance – and could use help from experienced wireless integrators to secure their systems.

Recent AIM RFP Postings

  • We need a system to track laptops and other mobile equipment from theft or general Asset Tracking.
  • We need RFID technology to address timber theft.
  • Interested in a basic tracking system for home office. Samples are received from vendors. Annual volume of about 10,000 units. Basic need is to ensure samples are secure and not being removed from home office.
  • We are interested in using RFID technology to interact with the current database. The function of the RFID would be to recognize our dry cleaning customers while they are pulling into the parking lot. The RFID would communicate with the in store computer and start the process of pulling the customers clothing to the front of the store.
  • I am working with a pharmaceutical wholesaler trying to implement the capability for item level tracking through the application of RFID technology.
