The Competitive Edge
About The Competitive Edge
The Competitive Edge is AIM North America’s monthly, quick-read e-newsletter. Our purpose, as the title suggests, is to help you maintain your competitive edge and grow your business by putting you in touch with key information. Inside you’ll find highlights on current reseller, integrator, distributor, or manufacturer issues and market trends (a feature titled Headline AIM), along with member-specific news and information. As good as The Competitive Edge is, we’re open to new ways of making it even better, so your comments and suggestions are welcomed.
Headline AIM — The Field Service Field is Open for Focused VARs
By John Burnell, Burnell Reports
Who knew your local plumber was part of a $3.8 billion market opportunity for mobile automation? That's how much will be spent on mobile applications this year, with small businesses projected to be the biggest buyers, accounting for 38% of the market according to Compass Intelligence. The consulting firm predicts the mobile application market will grow between 20% and 37% annually through 2011, when it will be worth $9 billion.

Channel Bytes — Nanosecond Technology and “Don’t Blink” Marketing
By Michelle Kabele, Zebra Technologies
Did you ever hear the comment, “don’t blink or you’ll miss it”? In today’s rapid-fire marketplace, the phrase is truer than ever. Technology and all of its “rewards” have us moving at blazing speed. Here in the 21st century, we’re living in a nanosecond culture. We need the fastest Internet access possible. We work wirelessly to keep mobile. We want 24/7 access and if we have to get in the car, we slip on a Bluetooth so we don’t have to miss a beat. We don’t want to waste time on the phone or wait for a call back so we text or instant message. We shop online to find even the most obscure products at any hour and then want them shipped overnight (preferably free) because time is precious.
